  • Discuss the positive and negative results of Overture’s three search engine innovations. How did those innovations turn out today?

Search engines from Overture is such a useful way for people to gain knowledge about anything on the inter. Positive consequences is that search engines help us get that tiny bit of specific data we need without looking around too much. Finding data like this without a search engine can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Innovations like the ones listed in the article prove to be useful even today as this can result into people being saved from accidents like Tanya Rider and to further predict danger. However, there can be some negative consequences that could result into conflict such as putting absolute trust in search engines. If we just only gain knowledge from search engines, search engines can hide the truth sometimes. For example, in China, typing in anything democracy related or the Tiananmen square incident will not pop anything significant up. This can bring up controversy due to censorship from the truth. Search engines can be deceiving as technology can be in general too. Today, search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing prove to useful as they expanded into emails, photos, and online document software. Thanks to search engines, technology can even become more advanced. More technology will be created and change society but we need to make sure that not all technology should be completely trusted.
